Battle, Dimithe and Schertzing Elected to Membership at Miller Johnson

Kevin D. Battle, Jr., Loïc M. Dimithe, and Grant E. Schertzing have been elected to Membership at the firm. All three progressed as Associates with the firm and each have spent their legal careers at Miller Johnson.

“We are proud of the successful careers Kevin, Loïc, and Grant have developed,” said David M. Buday, Managing Member at Miller Johnson. “Their dedication, excellence, and adherence to client needs has elevated the firm’s presence. Their abilities to provide outstanding legal counsel makes this a great advancement for us as all three started at Miller Johnson while in law school. Now they continue to lead clients and colleagues as we grow together.”

“We are also particularly proud of the importance of welcoming Kevin, who grew up in Muskegon, and Loïc, who was born in Cameroon in Central Africa and has lived on 3 continents, to our membership when diverse representation is critical to our culture,” said Buday. “Our clients’ interests are best served when we provide dynamic teams to solve problems. Miller Johnson is committed to leading the fight of transformational change in an increasingly diverse, multicultural, and global marketplace.”

Kevin Battle, Jr. counsels clients on employment policies and practices, immigration matters, and litigation strategy. His practice focuses on employment based and business related immigration matters, including representing employers with H-1B visas for specialty occupations, TN visas for professionals, E visas based on U.S. Treaties and Trade Agreements, L-1 visas for intra-company transfers of managers and specialized knowledge workers, and employment based permanent resident filings. He is co-chair of Miller Johnson’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee and was honored as an “Up & Coming Lawyer” Class of 2021 in Michigan by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. He is on the Board of Directors for Justice for Our Neighbors and Kent Schools Services Network.

“Being elevated to membership is a tremendous honor and something I’ve been working towards since joining Miller Johnson,” said Battle. “It has taken a lot of commitment, perseverance, and sacrifices from not only myself, but family members and colleagues. I am proud to join the ranks of membership at Miller Johnson and continue work hard for our clients and community.”

Loïc Dimithe focuses his corporate practice on representing clients in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), finance and commercial banking matters. He has experience in buy-side and sell-side transactions involving private equity investments, manufacturing, technology, health care, family owned businesses and closely held companies. Mr. Dimithe is active with the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), in which he is a member of ACG’s Diversity Committee, Young Professionals Committee and the Western Michigan Annual ACG Cup Committee.

“Becoming a member usually results in the celebration of the specific attorney and their achievements,” said Dimithe. “To me, my election to membership should be celebrated as an achievement of the firm and my family. I’m certain that I would not be where I am at in my career without the firm’s commitment to providing opportunities for continued growth and development and the unequivocal support I’ve received from my loved one. I cannot express how thankful I am to be so blessed, and how excited I am for the future.

Grant Schertzing works in commercial real estate and environmental law. He helps his clients buy, sell, lease, and develop real property. When that property has environmental challenges, he helps his clients find a solution. Mr. Schertzing supports a range of clients in their real estate deals and projects, including sellers and buyers, landlords and tenants, developers and property owners, brokers, and design professionals. Mr. Schertzing serves on the Political Affairs and Government Committee of the Commercial Alliance of Realtors of West Michigan.

“I first joined Miller Johnson in 2013, during my first summer in law school, and I’ve been with the firm ever since,” said Schertzing. “It’s incredible to think back and recognize how much the firm and our Real Estate Group have grown during that time. Many of the colleagues that I work with every day joined the firm over those years. It’s been a privilege to be able to be a part of that growth and to work so closely with so many great attorneys. I’m so thankful for all of the opportunities that Miller Johnson has given me, and for all of the support that my wife and family have shown over this time.”
