Employee Benefits Associate Attorney (Grand Rapids Office)

Miller Johnson, one of West Michigan’s largest, full service law firms has an immediate opening in the employee benefits practice group for their Grand Rapids office for an entry level associate with up to 3 years of experience.  The attorney position will work in all areas of employee benefits and executive compensation, including retirement benefits and health and welfare benefits. The successful candidate will have excelled in law school courses regarding tax, employee benefits and insurance law.  Post-graduate work experience in employee benefits, with experience in health and welfare benefits areas a plus.  Excellent academic credentials are required, as well as good writing and communication skills.

Docket Coordinator (Grand Rapids Office)

Miller Johnson, one of West Michigan’s largest full service law firms, is seeking an experienced legal professional for our centralized docketing department. Reporting to the Docket Manager, the Docket Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the firm’s centralized docketing database/calendar in accordance with rule-based litigation deadlines and internal firm policies and procedures. We are seeking an individual with innovative ideas and a passion for continual learning.

Responsibilities

      • Assist in the development and implementation of centralized docketing procedures, templates, and reminders.
      • Review electronic mail for client and firm deadlines.
      • Enter all incoming court deadlines into Docket Enterprise, confirming deadlines are accurately calculated.
      • Provide guidance and research on procedural and administrative questions, rule changes and judges information.
      • Timely and accurately generate docket reports and queries as requested by attorneys and other staff.
      • Serve as a resource to firm attorneys and staff as it relates to docketing.
      • Other duties, including special projects, as assigned.

Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in a related legal field or business administration preferred
      • Minimum two years litigation support experience
      • Knowledge of basic litigation docketing and calendaring process
      • Knowledge of Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and Michigan Court Rules (MCR) and familiarity with various court websites, docket searching and document retrieval databases including PACER, etc.
      • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
      • Exceptional client service skills, discretion, and judgment to ensure client confidentiality
      • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
      • Organized and detail-oriented
