Paralegal: Elder Law, Probate, and Trust – Grand Rapids Office

Miller Johnson, one of West Michigan’s largest full service law firms, is seeking an experienced full-time Paralegal to join our probate and estate planning practice group in our downtown Grand Rapids office.

Responsibilities

  • Medicaid planning and timely application; implementing Medicaid qualification strategies; working closely with clients to obtain information necessary for application and audit compliance; assisting with audits and denials of government benefits; annual accountings and Medicaid renewals.
  • Preparation of probate documents, with a focus on assisting in establishing and administering guardianships and conservatorships.
  • Preparation of estate planning documents ancillary to applications for government benefits.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related legal field or paralegal certificate preferred
  • Minimum one year of experience with Medicaid planning and application
  • Elder law experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) is required
  • Exceptional client service skills, discretion, and judgment to ensure client confidentiality
  • Proactive, organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Litigation Legal Administrative Assistant – Grand Rapids Office

Miller Johnson, one of West Michigan’s largest full service law firms, is seeking an experienced full-time Litigation Legal Administrative Assistant for our downtown Grand Rapids office in Arena Place.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating administrative and legal practice tasks and projects for Litigation attorneys (i.e. calendaring meetings, depositions, conference calls, and other appointments; new client intake; opening new client matters; billing activities, and client interaction.)
  • Preparing, editing, proofreading, and assembling legal documents and correspondence, which may require use of digital dictation/transcription.
  • Preparing and filing court documents including electronically, through Electronic Case Files (ECF)

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 – 2 years litigation experience
  • Health care and/or no-fault experience helpful
  • Knowledge of court and agency processes and procedures
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) including the ability to generate TOCs/TOAs and utilization of the Styles function

Software Engineer – Grand Rapids Office

Miller Johnson, one of West Michigan’s largest full service law firms, is seeking an experienced professional to join our Information Technology team.

The Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development and deployment of web applications as well as administration of the firm’s SQL server based applications and databases. The Software Engineer will work with the Business Analyst and stakeholders to identify business requirements and work with vendors and contractors to create web solutions based on these requirements.  Using QA methodologies, the Software Engineer will promote and deploy developed solutions. The Software Engineer must adhere to best practices in SQL Server database design, .Net code/design methodologies, processes and contribute to the creation of system documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Information Technology, Business Analyst, and key stakeholders to understand business and functional requirements
  • Accountable for design documentation and code reviews
  • Contribute to the development of integrated solutions; develop SharePoint components with minimal supervision; build custom enterprise search solutions utilizing SharePoint, .Net, and other technologies
  • Accountable for the resolution of defects/bugs (post deployment and ongoing)
  • Accountable for the implementation, testing, and maintenance of the firm’s SQL Server environment
  • Accountable for the adherence to and development of configuration management initiatives including source code control, build, and the development of deployment instructions
  • Ensure compliance of developed solution to underlying solution
  • Ensure adherence to development and configuration standards and processes
  • Ensure that design documentation and deployment instructions are produced with close collaboration with the IT Department
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement by contributing suggested practices, lessons learned, and feedback from end-users

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience with MS Certifications
  • 3+ years experience in a similar role

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with MVC framework, WWF, XML, XSLT, WCF, CSS, C#, ASP.NET, Powershell, Javascript, JQuery, Ajax
  • Knowledge of and experience in the administration of Microsoft SQL Server
  • Solid knowledge in application development life cycle, including requirements gathering, system design and testing (QA & UAT) and transition from development to production
  • Ability to lead technology proofs-of-concept projects to support design and solution approaches
