Collections Specialist – Grand Rapids Office

Miller Johnson, one of West Michigan’s largest full service law firms, has an immediate full-time opening for a Collections Specialist in our downtown Grand Rapids office.  The Collections Specialist is responsible for monitoring client intake, work in progress (WIP) and unbilled time, as well as responding to and initiating contact with clients and attorneys to resolve account issues and collect accounts receivables.  The Collections Specialist will also assist in cash applications, credit card processing, and other accounts receivable duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a professional services firm and/or commercial collections preferred
  • Proficient in the use of accounting software, web-based research, and MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles
  • Exceptional client service, independent judgment, and discretion
  • Concise and effective written and verbal communication
  • Pro-active and detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to safely perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Professionally represent the firm while working with and collecting delinquent accounts
  • Respond to and initiate contact with clients and attorneys to resolve account issues
  • Monitor new client intake and work in progress to ensure timely billing
  • Assist with cash application and credit card processing
  • Comply with credit and collection policies, internal controls, and audit requirements
  • Participate in the review of prospective new clients for the purpose of assessing potential payment risk
  • Other duties, including special projects, as assigned

Paralegal: Elder Law, Probate, and Trust – Grand Rapids Office

Miller Johnson, one of West Michigan’s largest full service law firms, is seeking an experienced full-time Paralegal to join our probate and estate planning practice group in our downtown Grand Rapids office.

Responsibilities

  • Medicaid planning and timely application; implementing Medicaid qualification strategies; working closely with clients to obtain information necessary for application and audit compliance; assisting with audits and denials of government benefits; annual accountings and Medicaid renewals.
  • Preparation of probate documents, with a focus on assisting in establishing and administering guardianships and conservatorships.
  • Preparation of estate planning documents ancillary to applications for government benefits.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related legal field or paralegal certificate preferred
  • Minimum one year of experience with Medicaid planning and application
  • Elder law experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) is required
  • Exceptional client service skills, discretion, and judgment to ensure client confidentiality
  • Proactive, organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Legal Administrative Assistant – Kalamazoo Office

Miller Johnson, one of West Michigan’s largest full service law firms, is seeking an experienced full-time Legal Administrative Assistant for our downtown Kalamazoo office located in the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating administrative and legal practice tasks and projects for Business attorneys with an emphasis in mergers, acquisitions and real estate (e.g. calendaring meetings, deadlines, conference calls, tasks, appointments; preparing new client intake materials; opening new client matters; billing activities; client interaction by phone, email and in person)
  • Preparing, editing, proofreading and assembling legal documents and correspondence (requiring use of digital dictation/transcription)
