Lori Fitzgerald is a litigation attorney in the firm’s Healthcare Provider Reimbursement Group and has been practicing law since 2011. Ms. Fitzgerald has extensive experience working with hospitals and physician groups seeking insurance reimbursement on patient accounts. She previously represented insurance companies and their insureds in personal injury, bodily injury liability, general negligence, and property claims. She also provided coverage analysis to insurance companies.

Healthcare Reimbursement Litigation

Ms. Fitzgerald represents medical providers in complex no-fault Personal Injury Protection claims to recover payment of services from insurance companies. This includes legal analysis, development of legal strategy, court appearances, and mediation to obtain the best result for her clients. She ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and statutes and interprets insurance policy language for coverage and exclusions.

Litigation

Ms. Fitzgerald has handled a variety of family and criminal matters in Western Michigan. She has handled auto and property claims throughout all of Lower Michigan, as well as Mackinac Island. In a wrongful death case involving a pedestrian/motor vehicle, she vigorously represented an auto insurance company and its insureds to successfully get the case dismissed at the trial court level. The trial court’s decision was affirmed by the Court of Appeals. While representing a major auto insurance company, she obtained numerous victories in cases stemming from fraud and exorbitant billing practices.

Ms. Fitzgerald is admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan and in the United States District Court., Western District of Michigan. She is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association. She is also an active participant in the Legal Aid of Western Michigan Pro Bono Program and is trained to be a certified mediator.

Ms. Fitzgerald has been named a 2024 Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America for Commercial Litigation, Health Care Law, and Insurance Law.

Education

Ms. Fitzgerald earned her J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2010. She was awarded an Academic Merit Scholarship, was Associate Editor of the Thomas M. Cooley Journal of Practical and Clinical Law, recognized on the Dean’s List, and earned a Certificate of Merit in Family Law.
