O’Rourke Elected to Membership at Miller Johnson

Matthew M. O’Rourke was recently elected to Membership at Miller Johnson.

Mr. O’Rourke practices in the firm’s Employment & Labor group, focusing on employment litigation, counseling clients on employment policies and practices and traditional labor. Mr. O’Rourke is a member of Miller Johnson’s recruiting committee and part of the firm’s Project Giveback pro bono initiative. He recently launched the firm’s National Employment Law Compliance practice to help serve clients with operations and employees in more than one state.

Mr. O’Rourke represents employers in issues of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, disabilities, accommodations, employee classification, wage and hour, overtime, workplace investigations, employee handbooks, and employment agreements. He counsels clients facing unfair labor practice charges and has trial experience before NLRB administrative law judges.  He also regularly represents clients in labor arbitrations.

As a litigator, Mr. O’Rourke has a strong track record of success with dismissals, wins on summary judgment, wins on appeal, and favorable settlements. These include FMLA claims, FLSA claims, claims of discrimination, harassment, failure to accommodate, fraud, defamation, constitutional violations, and breach of contract. Mr. O’Rourke has argued cases before state and federal trial courts, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has authored briefs for cases at all levels, including the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. O’Rourke received his law degree, magna cum laude, in 2014 from the University of Notre Dame Law School, where he was a Dean’s Circle Fellow. He received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 2006. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Grand Rapids Bar Association.
