Hunter Reams
Hunter Reams is an Associate at Miller Johnson in the business section focusing on mergers and acquisition (M&A).
Mr. Reams has experience working with a range of clients including tech start-ups, large manufacturing companies and established private equity groups. A significant part of Mr. Reams’ practice is in the space of Mergers and Acquisitions, in which he advises on dozens of transactions a year. Such work includes the following:
- Serves as M&A lead corporate associate on Buy-Side and Sell-Side transactions from the structuring/LOI process through post-closing assistance. Mr. Reams manages teams of younger associates and subject matter experts and is heavily involved in negotiations and all aspects of the M&A process.
- Mr. Reams leverages former public accounting experience to manage CPA and investment banking relationships, negotiate financial aspects of transactions and assist with strategic tax planning.
In addition to M&A, Mr. Reams provides a variety of other corporate legal services, such as drafting fund documentation, commercial contract negotiations and general corporate restructuring. Mr. Reams also provides tax consulting services and reviews of various tax provisions in agreements.
Professional Experience, Affiliations and Honors
Prior to joining Miller Johnson, Mr. Reams practiced as a Senior M&A Tax Associate at BDO USA, LLP in the Washington D.C. Metro area and as an International Tax Consultant with Deloitte. During law school, he worked as a law clerk with firms in Columbia, SC., Charleston SC and Cleveland, OH.
He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
Mr. Reams has been named as a Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for Corporate Law and Mergers and Acquisitions Law for 2025.
Community Activities
In the past, Mr. Reams has been a mentor with middle school students who showed an interest in the legal field. He has also spent time volunteering with animal shelters and community soup kitchens.
Education
Mr. Reams earned his J.D. in 2017 from South Carolina School of Law. While in law school he was Special Projects Editor for the Journal of International Law and Business. He also worked with the United States Military Tribunal Commission to assist in representing Guantamino Bay detainees and did a Securities Regulation and Enforcement Externship with the South Carolina Attorney General’s office.
Mr. Reams earned his B.S. from Central Michigan University in 2014 where he was active with Phi Alpha Delta and sang in the Central Michigan Concert Choir. He also attended Rochester College on a baseball scholarship where he worked on his B.B.A. Mr. Reams is licensed to practice in Michigan.
