James Buster, Jason Colvin, and Benton Schallip Elected to Membership at Miller Johnson

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. March 6, 2023 – Miller Johnson recently elected James A. Buster, Jason P. Colvin, and Benton M. Schallip to its Membership. Being a Member at Miller Johnson is the same as becoming a Partner at many law firms.

James A. Buster has been practicing law in Michigan since 2016.  He focuses his practice on ERISA litigation (defense side) arising from suits brought by union-affiliated multi-employer plans, commercial litigation, and real estate litigation. He represents corporations, family-owned businesses, and individual clients in federal and state courts. Mr. Buster is a Judge Advocate General (Captain) in the United States Army Reserve. Mr. Buster is admitted to the Michigan Bar, the District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also authorized to represent clients in United States Courts Marshal.

Jason P. Colvin provides counsel on a variety of sensitive family law matters. The types of matters he handles include divorce (dividing assets and debts, property division, and tax responsibilities); children (custody, support, visitation and parenting time); and, business (valuation and operation). Mr. Colvin served five years in the United States Navy following his graduation from the United States Naval Academy. He achieved the rank of lieutenant. Mr. Colvin was an engineering and weapons officer on the nuclear submarine the U.S.S. Augusta. Colvin is admitted to the Bar in Michigan.

Benton M. Schallip represents clients in matters involving corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial transactions. He counsels corporate clients, lenders and finance funds in connection with bilateral and syndicated loan transactions. He negotiates and coordinates logistics of asset-based finance facilities, acquisition finance, cash flow lending, and financing for start-up ventures. He often acts as the primary attorney responsible for communicating with clients in the drafting and negotiating of all documents required in order to complete a transaction. In addition to his finance and M&A work, Ben also maintains an active general corporate practice advising closely held and publicly traded companies in their day-to-day legal needs. Schallip is admitted to the Bar in Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois.
