Anne Marie Carson Selected to Crain’s 2024 Notable Women in Law

Miller Johnson attorney Anne Marie Carson has been selected to the Crain’s Grand Rapids Business 2024 “Notable Women in Law” list announced this week.

Ms. Carson is a Member of Miller Johnson and Co-Chair of the firm’s Corporate and Mergers and Acquisitions practice group. Her practice focuses on M&A transactions, general business services, and family office counseling. She works with clients from a diverse group of industries including manufacturing, distribution, agriculture and renewable energy. Ms. Carson also has extensive experience with private equity investments in platform initiatives and strategic mergers & acquisitions (M&A).

As part of her selection, Ms. Carson was noted for advising numerous Michigan entities in a flurry of M&A activity over the last few years, including significant growth in market share for many. Her leadership in the M&A space elevates the role of women in transactional work, especially in service to companies in traditionally-male dominated industries (landscape; lumber; medical technology; auditing).

“Anne Marie’s experience with business strategies including entity formation, investment strategy, corporate governance and restructuring has provided exceptional service and clarity in the often-challenging environment of family owned business dynamics,” commented one of Ms. Carson’s nominators, lauding her skills in advising privately-held businesses.

“She has earned her reputation of excellence through understanding client’s objectives and working diligently in their interests,” stated another, while emphasizing the volume of acquisitions handled by Ms. Carson.

The selection further detailed Ms. Carson’s service to community organizations focused on education and diversity, equity, and inclusion. “Anne Marie is a Board member of the Grand Rapids Public Schools Foundation and the Foundation’s Great Sports Great Kids Program. She has spearheaded support of the GRPSF annual Turkey Trot and is an involved coach for Girls on the Run in Kent County. She is a past member of Miller Johnson’s Women’s Initiative Network which directs activities to recognize female professionals throughout Michigan. Anne Marie has been the firm’s representative to the Legal Council on Legal Diversity, a national organization of corporate chief legal officers, law firm partners, and representative attorneys working to increase minority presence in the legal profession.
