Angela Alvarez Sujek, Suzanne Miller and Maro Houhanisin Join Miller Johnson

Miller Johnson is proud to welcome attorneys Angela Alvarez Sujek, Suzanne M. Miller, and Maro Sarah Houhanisin to the firm. All three bring extensive experience and career achievements representing clients across a variety of industries and legal matters. In addition, all three practice from the firm’s new Detroit office.

Angela Alvarez Sujek is a Member in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. With a sharp focus on worldwide trademark and copyright clearance, prosecution, and enforcement, and IP issues arising in advertising, marketing, licensing, and corporate transactions, Angela brings a great depth of IP and business experience to the team.  She practices before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and is admitted to practice in the federal courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.

Her practice is focused on trademark and copyright clearance, prosecution, and enforcement; advertising and marketing; licensing; and corporate transactions involving intellectual property assets. She handles intellectual property matters internationally and in the United States, including representing clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Alvarez Sujek is recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® for her expertise in Trademark Law and has been recognized by World Trademark Review (WTR) for several years running. She is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and serves as Chair of the Trademark Internet Committee and Co-Chair of the Retention and Advancement Subcommittee for the Women in IP Committee. She also is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and has held various leadership roles. She graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan.

Suzanne M. Miller is a Member in the firm’s Real Estate practice group. Her practice focuses on tax planning and controversy, real property and general corporate law. Most recently Ms. Miller was a shareholder at Butzel Long, representing industrial, commercial, and residential property owners. She is an expert in state and local tax matters, including appeals of property tax assessments, changes in classification of real estate, and applications for property tax exemptions. Miller is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant. She graduated from Wayne State University Law School and received her undergraduate degree from Alma College.

Maro Sarah Houhanisin is a Counsel attorney in the firm’s Medical Recovery practice group.  She represents health care providers seeking insurance reimbursement on patient accounts regarding eligibility, coverage, causation, and priority disputes under Michigan’s No Fault Insurance Act. Houhanisin was previously an assistant prosecuting attorney at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and a principal at Novara Tesija Catenacci McDonald & Baas PLLC.  She focuses her practice on complex no-fault personal injury cases to obtain payment for her clients that have been wrongfully delayed or denied. Houhanisin graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and received her undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University.
