Rich Sorota

Rich Sorota is the first Chief Executive Officer of Miller Johnson. He works collaboratively to deliver continued growth by leading and engaging all areas of the firm, and serving as a business partner and advisor to the Management Committee and all team members.

Experience

Rich brings expertise as CEO/President/EVP/Board member of global, public, private and family-owned businesses. Classically trained at General Electric, Procter & Gamble, and Philips, he is a transformation expert and servant leader with a successful track record of exceeding customer expectations and outperforming competition. He is a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial leader with extensive experience in strategy and corporate development, P&L management, mergers & acquisitions and new product launches generating billions in sales.

Prior to joining Miller Johnson, Rich was President, Consumer Self-Care Americas for Perrigo Company, a global consumer self-care company, where he was responsible for 1,900+ products, 9,000+ SKUs and 130+ customer brands in the OTC, Infant Formula and Oral Care businesses.

Before Perrigo, Rich was President & Chief Executive Officer at Ranir, a leading global manufacturer and seller of private label oral and personal care products with total sales in 2020 of $405 million in 50 countries. He was responsible for 700 employees across North America, Europe and Asia.

As Managing Director/Operating Partner at American Capital, a publicly traded private equity and global asset management firm, Rich collaborated with CEOs and leadership teams of four portfolio companies – ASAP Industries (oil & gas equipment), Halt Medical (medical devices dealing with uterine fibroids), Montana Silversmiths (jewelry) and Rug Doctor (do-it-yourself carpet cleaning) – helping increase value by focusing on strategy, organization/leadership development, profitable sales growth and Board governance.

Rich has held leadership roles at Bissell Homecare, Inc., a family-owned floor care company and the leading manufacturer and marketer of vacuums and deep-carpet and floor cleaners in North America; was an independent Strategy & Manufacturing Consultant for the United States Postal Service in Washington, D.C.; and was President of Harman International Industries’ Global Consumer Business. Earlier in his career, Rich had roles of increasing responsibility at Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, Philips, Procter & Gamble (Brand Management) and General Electric (Finance).

Professional Affiliations, Activities, and Honors

Rich’s extensive Board of Directors experience includes serving as Independent Board Director for Rug Doctor; Board Director for Ranir LLC, SHYN, Halt Medical and Montana Silversmiths; and Board Member for Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes, Broadway Grand Rapids and The Right Place. He is a Member of World 50/Grow 50 and the Executive Forum.

Education

Rich earned a Master of Business Administration at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science at the University of Vermont.
