Maro Houhanisin is an attorney in the firms Med Recovery practice group. She is a tenacious attorney with a unique background, who thrives on solving challenging legal issues for clients. With her inherent ability to view cases from a full-picture perspective, she has successfully litigated both civil and criminal matters since she began her legal career in 2013.

Practice related activities

Ms. Houhanisin works with the firm’s hospital and health system clients to obtain payment for medical services from insurers when wrongfully delayed or denied. She has experience successfully litigating complex no-fault personal injury cases involving issues of coverage and medical causation.

She began her career as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, where she was tasked with handling sexual assault cases. She was well known as a zealous advocate and worthy opponent in the courtroom and during trial. Ms. Houhanisin spent several years in personal injury defense prior to joining the firm.

Professional Affiliations, Activities and Honors

Ms. Houhanisin has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, teaching second- and third-year law students in a practical course focused on pre-trial advocacy.

She is a Board Member of Grand Valley State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) Alumni Board. She is also an Alumni Ambassador for Grand Valley State University.

Ms. Houhanisin received her Juris Doctorate from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2013 and her undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University in 2010.

She is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan, as well as to the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Michigan.
