Robert M. Harding

Robert is an experienced litigator practicing in Miller Johnson’s commercial litigation practice group. When navigating sensitive legal issues, businesses, company executives, high net worth individuals, and public figures turn to Robert for steadfast representation and nuanced advice.

Practice Related Activities

Robert maintains a diverse complex commercial litigation practice. He has litigated a wide variety of claims, including breach of contract, business torts, breach of fiduciary duty and duty of loyalty claims, violation of noncompetition, nonsolicitation, and confidentiality clauses, employment discrimination claims, and supply chain disputes. Robert also frequently represents clients in high stakes probate disputes, including claims of undue influence, breach of fiduciary duties, and wills and trusts litigation.

Robert has experience in all aspects of civil litigation, including serving as first chair in three federal civil jury trials, taking and defending depositions, writing and arguing dispositive motions, conducting discovery, and navigating mediation and settlement. Most notably, Robert chaired, and prevailed in, a three-day jury trial on civil and constitutional claims in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois.

Outside of the courtroom, Robert frequently advises company executives, high net worth families, athletes, and entertainers in a wide variety of sensitive legal matters, including pre-litigation dispute resolution, employment issues, contract matters, and personal legal matters. Robert also works closely with a wide range of corporate clients, including publicly and privately held companies focusing on the manufacturing, retail, wholesale, and entertainment industries.

Robert is a member of the Federal Bar Association for the Western District of Michigan, the State Bar of Michigan, and the American Bar Association.

While in law school, Robert earned the Rickert Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy from the University of Illinois College of Law.

Robert’s student Note, Calling Time: The Case for Ending Preferential Antitrust Treatment of NCAA Amateurism Rules After Alston, was published by the University of Illinois Law Review in its September 2022 issue.

Education

Robert earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he served as the Executive Editor of the University of Illinois Law Review. Robert earned his B.A., magna cum laude, in Political Science from Boston College.
