HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules: Tools for Making Sure You Are In Compliance
Covered entities need to prioritize compliance with the HIPAA privacy and security rules. HHS continues to enter into settlement agreements with covered entities regarding non-compliance. For example, in April 2017, one covered entity paid $31,000 to HHS for failure to have a business associate agreement in place with its records storage vendor. Also in April 2017, another covered entity paid $400,000 to HHS because it did not maintain a security management process to safeguard electronic protected health information.
