DIFS Updates Medical Providers Eligible for Enhanced No-Fault Reimbursements
On August 25, 2026, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) issued Bulletin 2026-21-INS, updating the lists of hospitals and medical providers eligible for enhanced reimbursement under Michigan’s no-fault law. The bulletin supersedes DIFS’ prior bulletins on this issue and is available here.
This latest bulletin updates those hospitals that qualify for enhanced reimbursement under the no-fault law based on indigent patient volume. Using data provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), DIFS has updated its list of hospitals with indigent volume of 20% to 29.99% and 30% or greater as of July 1, 2026. Hospitals appearing on these lists may be entitled to reimbursement above the standard no-fault fee schedule limitations. View the list here.
The bulletin also confirms the Level I and Level II trauma centers that remain eligible for enhanced reimbursement when emergency medical treatment is rendered before a patient is stabilized and transferred. That list is available here.
Finally, DIFS confirmed that two Michigan freestanding rehabilitation facilities eligible for enhanced reimbursement remain unchanged:
Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital (NPI 1730133463)
DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (NPI 1245293117)
Healthcare providers should review the updated DIFS lists and confirm that eligible claims are being reimbursed by auto insurers at the appropriate enhanced rates.
