DIFS Issues Updated Fee Schedule CPI Adjustment

On February 18, 2025, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services issued bulletin 2025-05-INS, which has significant implications for medical providers seeking payment of auto no-fault claims.

Under the no-fault law, a medical provider is eligible for reimbursements benchmarked against the amounts payable by Medicare or, where no such amount exists, various percentages of the provider’s January 1, 2019 chargemaster.  The rates in the January 1, 2019 chargemaster are adjusted annually, and cumulatively, by the medical component of the Consumer Price Index.  Each year, DIFS is required to notify interested parties of those CPI changes.  For dates of service July 2, 2025 through July 1, 2026, the rates in effect from January 1, 2019 are to be increased by 13.12%.

The DIFS bulletin may be accessed here.

Medical providers seeking payment of no-fault claims should ensure that reimbursements for care provided on these dates of service are adjusted to reflect this enhancement.  Failure to do so can mean getting auto no-fault reimbursements below what the law requires, and in many cases substantially below.
