Richard Cherry Appointed Administrative Member of Miller Johnson Kalamazoo Office

Kalamazoo, Mich. February 17, 2025 – Miller Johnson has announced that Richard O. Cherry will serve as Administrative Member of the Kalamazoo office in 2025. In this role, Mr. Cherry will supervise client service activities of the 155-attorney firm in Southwest Michigan. Miller Johnson has 15 attorneys based in Kalamazoo.

Richard Cherry is a seasoned litigator and public sector expert at Miller Johnson. He has extensive experience in complex civil litigation, labor and employment, and municipal law – representing clients in federal and state courts, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.

As a former deputy city attorney and assistant city attorney for the City of Kalamazoo, Rich gained invaluable insight into the legal issues and challenges facing local governments and public entities. He is well-versed in the Freedom of Information Act, the Open Meetings Act, and municipal finance, and has served as counsel for various development and economic initiatives.

Rich is committed to professional excellence, diversity, and community service. He is a 2024 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow, a prestigious program that fosters leadership skills and relationships among high-potential attorneys from diverse backgrounds. He also serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations that support affordable housing, and youth development. He is a member and former president of the Judge Charles A. Pratt Bar Association, and a member of the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys. Rich is also an instructor at the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Police Academy.

Rich is a graduate of the Wayne State University Law School, where he graduated with honors in legal writing. He earned his law degree in 2005. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Kalamazoo College in 2001. He is licensed in Michigan and Illinois.
