Peterson Selected to Crain Grand Rapids Business Notable Litigators & Trial Attorneys

Miller Johnson attorney James R. Peterson has been selected to the Crain’s Grand Rapids Business 2025 Notable Litigators & Trial Attorneys announced March 24.

Mr. Peterson is a Member of the firm and has been practicing law at Miller Johnson since 1989. His practice includes constitutional law, commercial litigation, trade secret litigation, professional liability, real estate disputes, and unfair competition. He counsels and represents companies regarding issues involving business disputes, including claims for breach of contract, non-competition agreements and trade secrets.

Mr. Peterson serves as general counsel for Miller Johnson. He advises the firm on all legal and risk issues. He has served as general counsel since 2008, except for a period of six years when he served on the firm’s Management Committee. He was the lead lawyer advising firm clients as to the State of Michigan’s executive orders regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and challenging certain of those orders in the courts, several of which were invalidated as a result.

Mr. Peterson belongs to the State Bar of Michigan and Grand Rapids Bar Association. He is a mediator with the Kent County Circuit Court and serves as counsel to the Better Business Bureau of West Michigan.
