Miller Johnson Continues to Receive Highest Ranking for Private Wealth Law in Chambers High Net Worth Guide

The Chambers High Net Worth (HNW) Guide, for the third consecutive year, ranked Miller Johnson’s estate planning group with the highest ranking (Band 1 of 5).  In addition, key individual attorneys were also recognized: Robert Brower at Band 1; Christopher Edgar and Lauretta Murphy both at Band 2; and Raj Malviya for Up and Coming.

Chambers 2018 HNW Guide covers private wealth management work and related specialties in key jurisdictions around the world, featuring in-depth editorial about the leading lawyers and law firms for wealthy individuals and families.

Laurie Murphy chairs the estate planning practice group and commented, “We take pride in our reputation as trusted and respected advisors to private clients so we are honored to be recognized by our clients in Chambers. We work with private clients ― their family owned businesses and closely held companies, and family offices ― to preserve their assets, protect their legacies and promote their philanthropic values.”

The Chambers 2018 HNW Guide published this:  The team works with wealthy families and business owners on estate planning and business succession planning matters, with an additional focus on asset protection. It also represents both fiduciaries and beneficiaries in litigation.

“They have some very good people, very dedicated to their clients,” says an interviewee, adding: “It’s rare for me to see attorneys who are so attentive to clients’ needs. If they think something is wrong, they won’t go forward. They’re a very good firm, I’ve really enjoyed working with them.”

In addition, these Miller Johnson lawyers are featured:

  • Robert Brower is a well-respected litigator who has a wealth of experience representing clients in contested trusts and estates matters. Described as “very accomplished,” Brower also advises on the administration of trusts and estates, business succession and estate planning matters. His clients range from wealthy families and business owners to fiduciaries.
  • Christopher Edgar advises wealthy clients on estate planning, wills and trusts matters, as well as working with the owners of privately held businesses on succession matters. “He’s excellent and highly rated. In my dealings with him, he’s always been very knowledgeable and been innovative,” says an interviewee. Another adds that “he really cares about his clients and gets close to them in a professional sense.”
  • Lauretta Murphy leads the firm’s trusts and estates group and has a great reputation in the community for her estate planning practice. “Laurie is an incredibly fine lawyer,” says an interviewee, adding: “She’s extremely smart, practical – she can advise on a huge array of issues and one thing I’ve been so impressed on is that she can handle the real world issues. She understands what keeps her clients up at night and that ability to span the technical and family dynamics is invaluable.” A peer comments: “She’s delightful and very competent – I have no qualms in sending a matter of any kind to her.” Murphy is also praised for being “very good on detail.”
  • Raj Malviya handles international and domestic estate planning matters for wealthy clients, with a specialism in tax planning. “Raj is truly exceptional,” enthuses an interviewee. “He’s very, very quick, asks the right questions. He’s really good – I’d hire him in a New York minute. He’s as bright as you’re going to find.” “He’s really personable, he has a great rapport with people, whatever age and gender,” explains another source. “He’s very smart and thorough, easy to work with, very knowledgeable, cutting-edge in terms of the various programmes out there to help clients like me protect their estate. He’s helpful, responsive, detail-oriented – all the things you would want. I highly recommend him to people who now ask me who to use. I give him a stellar ‘best of the best’ rating.”
