Miller Johnson Establishes Mental Health Law Practice

Miller Johnson has established a Mental Health Law practice devoted to the work we do with licensed professionals and mental and behavioral health providers.

This practice is part of Miller Johnson’s overall Health Care Law emphasis and focuses on the obligations under Michigan’s Mental Health Code that go beyond the laws and regulations that apply to other healthcare providers.

Richard Hillary, chair of the Mental Health Law practice, shares “Our attorneys fully understand the complex legal and ethical framework imposed on mental health providers and the tension between the Mental Health Code and other areas of the law.  We aim to be a trusted resource to providers in complying with regulations as they serve and treat their clients.”

The attorneys in the Mental Health Law practice come from many of the firm’s well-established practice groups including health care providers, health care professional licensing, regulatory compliance and accreditation, employment health care, provider reimbursement, elder law, private client, criminal, and fraud and embezzlement, and privacy and cybersecurity.  More information on the areas of concentration and matters for this practice group can be found on our web site.

Miller Johnson is a full-service firm providing legal counsel to businesses and individuals in areas such as business and corporate, employment and labor, litigation, employee benefits, and estate planning.  In November 2018, U.S. News and World Report and Best Lawyers awarded Miller Johnson with tier 1 rankings for 27 practice areas in the Grand Rapids Metro area and nine practice areas in Kalamazoo.  For more firm information, visit our LinkedIn page.
