Metzler Honored with Call to Justice Award by Elder Law of Michigan

Cathy Metzler is the recipient of the Joe D. Sutton Call to Justice Award given by Elder Law of Michigan. She is being honored for making inspiring and significant contributions to the needs of vulnerable adults.

Elder Law bestows awards annually on individuals and organizations that work towards safety, fairness and justice for vulnerable people. Also included in the individual recognition is Bonnie Hogoboom and Nancy Kropiewnicki from the Area Agency on Aging and organizational recognition to Advocates for Senior Issues. The award event will be August 31 at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

Ms. Metzler has been practicing law since 1984 and she specializes in estate planning (including special needs trust) and taxation, probate and trust administration, guardianship and conservatorship, elder law and Medicaid planning. She is the co-chair of Miller Johnson’s Elder Law and Disability Planning practice group.

Ms. Metzler is listed in the “Best Lawyers in America®” for Elder Law, and Trusts and Estates. She is active with several bar associations and is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. Ms. Metzler is a member of the Kalamazoo County Elder Abuse Prevention Coalition which created a handbook for vulnerable adults and their families. She is on the board of directors of Friendship Village Community, and the Kalamazoo County Elder Abuse Prevention Coalition. Ms. Metzler regularly volunteers at the Kalamazoo County Probate Court free probate clinic and for the Legal Hotline for Elder Law of Michigan, Inc.
