Mary Tabin Selected for Inclusion in 2026 Crain’s Grand Rapids Business Notable Women in Law

Grand Rapids, MI – March 9, 2026 – Miller Johnson is proud to announce that Mary Tabin has been recognized as a 2026 Crain’s Grand Rapids Business Notable Woman in Law. This distinguished honor reflects Mary’s exceptional career as a trusted advisor to employers, her dedication to advancing women in the legal profession, and her impact on the Grand Rapids business and legal community.

Mary is a Member at Miller Johnson and has built a distinguished practice for 28 years. She serves on the firm’s Management Committee and is Vice-Chair of the Family Owned Business and Closely Held Companies Practice. She is also a member of the firm’s Investigation Practice Group, Wage and Hour Practice Group, and FMLA/ADA Solutions Practice Group, as well as the firm’s Health Care Reform Team. Mary previously served as Chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment Section.

She counsels employers on their most complex and consequential workforce challenges, including employee relations, retention strategies, employment policies, executive and employee contracts, and compliance with employment and workplace laws. She brings deep experience addressing discrimination, harassment, disability, and retaliation matters and is widely sought after for her practical, candid advice, training and speaking engagements on these topics. A hallmark of her practice is Mary’s expertise in conducting sensitive workplace investigations involving harassment, discrimination, misconduct, and compliance concerns. She partners closely with company leaders and boards of directors to develop corrective actions and implement operational and compliance improvements that strengthen employee relations and mitigate legal risk.

Mary is a co-founder of Miller Johnson’s Women’s Initiative Network (WIN), a highly influential internal group dedicated to supporting and empowering women lawyers and leaders at every stage of their careers. As past Chair of WIN’s leadership committee, she championed opportunities for the firm’s female attorneys and continues to lead efforts in recruiting, retaining, and advancing women at Miller Johnson, helping to ensure the firm’s strength and competitiveness in an evolving legal landscape.

She is deeply engaged in the regional HR and legal community through her participation in the Human Resource Management Society, the Lakeshore Human Resource Management Association, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the Grand Rapids Bar Association. Her commitment to community extends well beyond the practice of law. She has chaired her family’s business board through a successful sale, taught as an Adjunct Professor at Grand Valley State University, and held leadership and board roles with the Alliance for Women Entrepreneurs, The Employers Association of Grand Rapids, Community Counseling, and the Grand Rapids Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Mary has been consistently listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for Employment Law – Individuals and Labor Law – Management since 2015. In 2024, Michigan Lawyers Weekly recognized her as an “Influential Woman of Law” for her outstanding legal accomplishments, dedication to the profession, advancement of women attorneys and leaders, and her commitment to making a positive impact in the legal community and beyond. Among her most notable professional achievements, Mary has had the distinct honor of successfully defending a case before the United States Supreme Court — a rare accomplishment that underscores the caliber of her practice and her standing among the nation’s top lawyers.
