Raj. A. Malviya is one of 36 new Fellows of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).  Mr. Malviya is the only attorney from Michigan and the others hail from across the United States, Canada and England.  They were elected by the Board of Regents at the Fall Meeting in Nashville.

To qualify for membership to ACTEC, a lawyer must be nominated by his or her peers and have no less than 10 years’ experience in the active practice of probate and trust law or estate planning.  Fellows are elected based on their outstanding reputation, exceptional skill, and substantial contributions to the field by lecturing, writing, teaching, and participating in bar leadership or legislative activities.  It is their aim to improve and reform probate, trust and tax laws, procedures, and professional responsibility.

ACTEC’s President, Susan House, offered her congratulations stating, “only the most dedicated and talented trust and estate law professionals are elected into ACTEC.  We commend our New Fellows on their accomplishments and contributions to the profession, and we look forward to having them join us in the mission of ACTEC to improve and reform probate, trust, and tax laws, procedures, and professional responsibility.”

Mr. Malviya practices both domestic and international probate and estate planning, business succession planning, and taxation.  He specializes in matters related to tax and non-tax planning for US citizens, residents, and nonresidents who have ties to foreign jurisdictions.  Mr. Malviya earned his LL.M., in Taxation, with honors, from Northwestern University School of Law and his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law where he was a Charles Gromley Scholar.   He is recognized by Best Lawyers in America for trusts and estates and tax law, a Rising Star in Michigan’s Super Lawyers publication and recently a Rising Star by Chambers and Partners for Private Wealth Law.  He has also been recognized by the Grand Rapids Business Journal as one of its 40 Under Forty business leaders.

Mr. Malviya was previously a Fellow with the American Bar Association Real Property, Trust and Estate (RPTE) Section (2014-2016), ACTEC Young Leadership Program (2016-2017) and the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity.  He maintains leadership roles with the Probate & Estate Planning Council of the State Bar of Michigan and the Trusts & Estates Division of the RPTE Section of the American Bar Association.

Mr. Malviya is frequently sought after as a national presenter on current domestic and international estate planning and tax developments for groups including the ABA Section Real Property, Trust and Estate Law, the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education and Meritas.  Mr. Malviya is also a proficient author and frequently publishes in state and national publications.  He is the recent author of Chapter 23 “International Estate Planning” for The Michigan Estate Planning Handbook (Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education, University of Michigan Press, 3rd edition).
