Five Attorneys Elected to Membership at Miller Johnson

Jason M. Crow, Patrick M. Edsenga, Neil J. Marchand, Gerald W. (Tripp) VanderWal and Neil D. Williams were recently elected to Membership at Miller Johnson.  They are all in the Grand Rapids office.

Jason Crow’s practice centers around two areas: privacy and cybersecurity and white collar defense and government investigations. Mr. Crow is a Certified Information Privacy Professional – United States (CIPP/US) and he has experience advising clients on federal and state laws such as HIPAA, FCRA, CIPA, GLBA, ITAR, state breach notification laws, and state data security laws. He has also developed the firm’s strategic alliances with identity theft protection services, information technology and security experts, cyber-risk insurance providers. Mr. Crow has been named as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in White Collar Criminal Defense since 2014.  He is a graduate of Boston College Law School and is licensed to practice in Michigan and Massachusetts.

Patrick Edsenga’s employment and labor law practice focuses on counseling employers on hiring practices, disabilities and accommodation, employment discrimination, wage and hour law, and workplace harassment matters.  He also represents employers in litigation defending against charges of harassment and discrimination.  Mr. Edsenga is recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star for employment litigation: defense.  He received his J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School and is licensed to practice in Michigan and Illinois.

Neil Marchand focuses his practice on mental health law and insurance coverage disputes.  He works with mental health care providers and clinicians on licensing, policies and procedures, peer review privilege, document retention, mandatory reporter obligations, and aspects of compliance in litigation matters such as the disclosure of confidential health information.  Mr. Marchand also focuses on insurance coverage disputes on behalf of individuals and businesses, and has been named a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in Insurance Coverage litigation every year since 2013.  Prior to joining Miller Johnson, Mr. Marchand served as a judicial law clerk for The Honorable Gordon J. Quist on the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan.  He earned his J.D. with honors from The George Washington University Law School where he was a Thurgood Marshall Scholar, and is licensed to practice in Michigan.

Tripp VanderWal is part of the employee benefit and executive compensation practice group.  He advises private, public and non-profit employers in all areas of employee benefits. His experience includes group health plans; disability plans, ESOPs, and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. He also assists employers in complying with federal and state data privacy laws.  Since 2017, he has been recognized as an Associate to Watch in Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation by Chambers USA.  Mr. VanderWal earned his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law and is also a CPA having earned a Masters in Accounting from University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business.  He is licensed to practice in Michigan.

Neil Williams focuses his practice on transactional and business planning matters, with an emphasis on taxation.  Mr. Williams has significant experience advising both public and private clients on the taxation of domestic and international mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and restructurings.  He also counsels business clients on both day-to-day and long-term planning matters.  Since 2017, Super Lawyers recognized him as a Rising Star for Business/Corporate, Tax, and Mergers & Acquisitions.  Mr. Williams earned his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and a LL.M. from Loyola Law School.  He is licensed in Michigan, Illinois and California.
