Dick Hillary Named President of the Grand Rapids Bar Association Board of Trustees

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. July 14, 2025 – Miller Johnson is proud to celebrate Dick Hillary as the President of the Board of Trustees of the Grand Rapids Bar Association (GRBA), effective July 1, 2025.

A seasoned litigator and respected leader in the legal community, Mr. Hillary brings more than two decades of experience to the role. He is a member at Miller Johnson and serves on the firm’s Management Committee. His practice centers on medical reimbursement, counseling for health and behavioral health care providers, commercial litigation, and licensing and regulatory compliance.

“I am honored to serve as President of the Grand Rapids Bar Association,” said Hillary. “The GRBA plays a vital role in supporting our legal community and advancing access to justice. I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue that mission.”

With this appointment, Mr. Hillary becomes the first person to follow a parent in serving as President of the Grand Rapids Bar Association; his father, Richard Hillary, held the role from 2007 to 2008.  The younger Mr. Hillary also follows in a long line of Miller Johnson attorneys to hold the role of President of the Bar, including Glen V. Borre (1987-88), James S. Brady (1990-91), Matthew L. Vicari (2008-09), and the Honorable T.J. Ackert (2012-13).

Mr. Hillary has been a dedicated member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association for many years, having previously served as Chair of the Litigation Section and as an elected Trustee. He also held the role of Trustee and later Board President for the Kent County Legal Assistance Center. In addition, he served as Co-Chair of the Board for the Justice Foundation of West Michigan, the charitable arm of the GRBA. His commitment to service extends beyond the legal community—he is a former board member of the Criminal Justice Chaplaincy and currently serves on the board of Guiding Light Mission.

Mr. Hillary follows Michael D. Adams, who provided outstanding leadership during his term. As President, Mr. Hillary will continue to advance the Bar Association’s commitment to professional growth, meaningful community involvement, and the pursuit of equity within the legal system.
