Caulley and Contreras Join Miller Johnson

Miller Johnson is pleased to welcome Angela M. Caulley and Alejandra (Alex) Contreras as Associates in the Grand Rapids office.

Ms. Caulley joins the probate and estate planning group.  She will be working on drafting documents for estate plans, assisting with probate process as well as elder law matters such as Medicaid planning. She is admitted to practice in Michigan.  Prior to law school she taught mathematics at St. Phillip Catholic Central High School in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Ms. Caulley earned her J.D. summa cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law in 2017. While in law school, Ms. Caulley was a Dean Charles H. King Scholar (recognizes high academic achievement).  She was an Editor of the Michigan State Law Review and also served on the Senior Editorial Board as the Senior Symposia Editor.  Ms. Caulley received numerous Jurisprudence Achievement Awards as well as Moot Court recognitions.  She was also a judicial extern to the Honorable Curtis J. Bell in the Kent County Probate Court.  Ms. Caulley received her B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Psychology from Grand Valley State University in 2010 where she stays active as the Finance Advisor to Sigma Kappa Sorority.

Ms. Contreras is continuing her litigation practice. Prior to coming to Miller Johnson, she worked at Cadwalader Wicksham and Taft LLP in New York, NY. She was with the commercial litigation group where she worked on matters related to constitutional law, bankruptcy, patents, secured transactions and trusts. In addition to research, she drafted memoranda of law and motions for ongoing litigation.

During her time in law school, Ms. Contreras represented an immigrant in deportation proceedings in Immigration Court through the NYU Immigrant Rights Clinic. Ms. Contreras also spent her summer after her first year of law school interviewing dozens of immigrant victims of trafficking and filing T-Visa applications. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Contreras worked as a paralegal at two other New York City law firms.

Ms. Contreras is a graduate of New York University School of Law where she earned her J.D. and was on the staff of the Journal of Legislation and Public Policy.  In addition to working with the NYU Immigrant Rights Clinic, Ms. Contreras volunteered with the NYU Immigrant Rights project to interview immigrant detainees at detention centers and screen them for viable immigration claims.  Ms. Contreras was also active in NYU’s Latino Law Students Association. She is admitted to practice in New York and Michigan.
