HIPAA Training Videos

Miller Johnson has created two separate videos to meet the needs of Employer Health Plan Sponsors and Business Associates of Health Plans.  For information on how to order the video appropriate for your organization, please continue reading.

Each video is less than one hour and can be viewed by employees from a desktop or laptop that has access to his or her work email address.  The videos include multiple choice questions at various intervals to ensure employees are watching and engaged during the entire video.

What is the difference between the two training videos?

Employer Training Video

The Employer Training Video is for employers in their capacity as health plan sponsors.  This video focuses on the employer’s HIPAA obligations with respect to the protected health information (“PHI”) of participants in its health plans.  We anticipate that employers will want each employee in their organization who may have access to PHI in connection with its health plans to undergo the training.  Typically, this would include employees working in your benefits, HR, payroll, finance, risk management and IT areas.

Business Associate Training Video

The Business Associate Training Video is for business associates such as insurance agents and third-party administrators who provide services to employers in connection with their health plans.  A business associate will want each employee who may have access to the PHI of participants in its client health plans to undergo the training.  Very possibly this will include every single employee in the business associate’s organization.

What is the cost of the video?

The cost of the training video is $50 per person.

What are the advantages of the video?

There are several advantages of the video.

  1. Each employee to be trained will log on and you will receive a report to see who has viewed the video and who is registered but has not.  This will not only ensure full attendance but will also provide you with a valuable tracking tool to demonstrate you are complying with the HIPAA training requirement in the event of an audit or other legal challenge.
  2. The video is a convenient training method.  They can view the video anytime and anywhere.
  3. The training video is a way for you to not only train your existing employees but also new employees in the future.  The group to be trained may change over time.  For example, new employees may be hired or may transfer into the group requiring training.  The training video allows you to train these additional individuals in a convenient, cost effective manner.
