Jason Colvin is a Member of Miller Johnson practicing in the the family law group.  He provides counsel on a variety of sensitive family law matters with the additional support of firm resources and experienced attorneys from other practice areas.

Family Law

Mr. Colvin works to assure that proper procedures are performed, requirements met, and decisions made in a manner that best protects the clients. The types of matters he handles include:

  • Divorce: Dividing assets and debts, property division, and tax responsibilities
  • Children: Custody, support, visitation and parenting time
  • Business: Valuation and operation

During this difficult personal time, Mr. Colvin strives to settle these matters in a timely, cost-effective fashion respecting his client’s privacy. These can be resolved through alternative dispute resolution methods while at other times it must be handled through traditional litigation.

Professional Experience

Mr. Colvin served five years in the United States Navy following his graduation from the United States Naval Academy. He achieved the rank of lieutenant. Mr. Colvin was an engineering and weapons officer on the nuclear submarine the U.S.S. Augusta.

After completing his military service and before attending law school, Mr. Colvin worked for Stryker for nine years. He was the recipient of the 2015 Performance Excellence Award and the 2014 GQO Award.

Mr. Colvin worked at another law firm in Kalamazoo for almost three years prior to Miller Johnson. In addition to family law, he handled litigation cases including criminal law and business law.

Professional Affiliations

Mr. Colvin is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and the Kalamazoo Family Law Bar Association.

Community Activity

Mr. Colvin is a member of the Veteran’s for Smart Power, an initiative of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. He is also a youth football coach.

Education

Mr. Colvin earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in January 2016.  He received a B.S. in political science magna cum laude from the United States Naval Academy in 2003.

Mr. Colvin is currently licensed to practice in Michigan.
