Michael Weil is an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice, where he focuses on complex IP litigation involving patents, trademarks, and copyrights. He represents clients in disputes across the medical device, software, automotive, and mechanical technology sectors, translating technical issues into clear, strategic advocacy. Michael is also a Registered Patent Attorney and Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), representing clients in patent and trademark prosecution, IP transactional work, and privacy-related matters.

Professional Experience

Michael is an IP litigator with deep experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in complex patent disputes spanning mechanical, medical device, and software technologies. He supports all phases of litigation and has drafted a wide range of dispositive and non‑dispositive motions.

Michael has managed large‑scale document review projects involving hundreds of thousands of documents, overseen privilege and confidentiality workflows, and taken a full‑day deposition of a technical engineering witness. He regularly supports fact and expert witness preparation, and contributes to the development of infringement, invalidity, and broader case strategy.

He has played a key role in claim construction, including Markman briefing, and successfully authored an expedited claim construction brief under a 48‑hour court deadline during trial proceedings. Michael also collaborates closely with experts on report development and technical analyses and maintains strong client communication across multiple active matters.

As a Registered Patent Attorney and Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), Michael represents clients in patent and trademark prosecution, IP transactional work, and privacy-related matters across MedTech, mechanical, healthcare, food/agribusiness, and software-related technologies.

Michael has been recognized by Super Lawyers Rising Stars in both 2023 and 2024 for his work in Intellectual Property and Patent Litigation.

Michael is the 2025-2026 Chair of the Intellectual Property Council for the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA). He is also involved with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Illinois Chapter.

Michael holds a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. While in law school, Michael was honored with the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award and as a Fordham Law Merit Scholar. He also externed for the Hon. Judge Ronald J. Guzman in the Northern District of Illinois and served on the Fordham Law Intellectual Property Law Journal (IPLJ). Michael holds a B.A., cum laude, from Brandeis University, where he concentrated in pre-medical studies and majored in History.
