Jordan Schwartz is a Member in Miller Johnson’s business section. Mr. Schwartz has significant experience advising businesses, investors, and owners in their acquisition, investment, disposition, capital raising, corporate governance, succession planning, commercial, and operational activities.
Investors and Financial Sponsors
Mr. Schwartz represents private equity funds, family offices, independent sponsors, and portfolio companies in connection with leveraged platform and add-on acquisitions, equity and debt financings, minority investments, recapitalizations, restructurings, and exit transactions.
Mr. Schwartz advises public and privately held companies, from small businesses to national and multinational operating companies, on a range of complex business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and other strategic investments, dispositions of business lines and other material assets, and capital markets transactions.
Mr. Schwartz regularly acts as outside general counsel to entrepreneurs, founders, multi-generational family businesses, closely held private companies, and public companies on a wide range of day-to-day issues, including commercial matters, board and governance matters, new investment and matters relating to existing equity holders, employee and independent contractor arrangements, regulatory compliance, and other business operation and planning concerns.
Mr. Schwartz works with business owners and their advisors to plan for and implement the transition of ownership and control from one generation to the next. Transitioning ownership or control of the family business is a milestone event that presents unique dynamics and challenges. In this role, Mr. Schwartz works closely with his clients and their advisors to plan for and execute successful transition transactions, including on matters relating to structuring, financing, governance and control rights, and dispute resolution.

Professional Affiliations, Activities and Honors
Mr. Schwartz is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Massachusetts Bar Association. He is also a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG).
He actively works on attorney professional development and training and serves as a mentor to a number of younger attorneys. He is also interested in the development and use of technology by legal practitioners as a means to improve client service outcomes.
Mr. Schwartz began his career at WilmerHale LLP in Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to joining Miller Johnson, he was a Partner at Honigman LLP, where he concentrated his practice on mergers and acquisitions and practiced in both the Detroit and Grand Rapids offices.
Community Activity and Pro Bono
Mr. Schwartz volunteers for Spectrum Health Hospice, where he serves patients and their families in a variety of capacities, including as a friendly visitor, by providing caregiver relief, through recording and compiling life stories, and as an 11th hour companion.
He also provides pro bono corporate law and business coaching services to graduates of Spring GR, a training, mentoring and networking program for entrepreneurs in underserved communities in Grand Rapids.
Mr. Schwartz earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School in 2011. He served as Production Editor of the Suffolk University Law Review. He received his B.A. in Philosophy and Sociology from Central Michigan University in 2007.
