Daniel A. Scharf
Dan Scharf is a Counsel attorney in the firm’s Education practice. Dan is experienced in matters involving education law, with particular expertise in federal civil rights laws compliance and investigations.
Professional Experience
Dan’s career in law is marked by a commitment to civil rights and public service. He has nearly two decades of experience enforcing federal civil rights laws at K-12 and postsecondary educational institutions throughout Ohio and Michigan. He has conducted investigations and negotiated resolution agreements to ensure compliance with state and federal laws that prohibit discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, and age. Dan has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution and has trained attorneys and investigators within a federal agency on mediation best practices. He has partnered with schools and parents to find efficient and straightforward solutions to complex compliance issues. Dan also has experience delivering presentations to education stakeholders on compliance with federal civil rights laws, and has presented to groups including administrative teams, teaching professionals, athletic directors, and parents.
His expertise spans several key federal civil rights laws, including:

• Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
