Joslin Monahan is a litigator in Miller Johnson’s Litigation Practice Group who represents clients in complex, high-stakes disputes involving critical business, employment, regulatory, and public-facing interests. Known for her strategic judgment, courtroom agility, and steady presence under pressure, Joslin helps clients navigate litigation where timing, leverage, and decisive action matter.

Joslin has litigated and tried cases in both state and federal courts, including matters taken through trial and verdict. She is regularly called upon to handle urgent and business-critical disputes involving emergency injunctive relief, temporary restraining orders, expedited discovery, trade secrets, business torts, partnership disputes, permitting and land use, and contractual claims with significant operational or financial implications.

Executives, business owners, human resources, and general counsel turn to Joslin for clear strategy in fast-moving litigation environments. Whether responding to an emergency filing, protecting confidential business information, or positioning a complex commercial and employment dispute for resolution, she brings a practical, results-oriented approach focused on advancing the client’s objectives while managing risk.

Joslin is also highly recognized for her work in Michigan’s cannabis industry. She advises operators, investors, municipalities, and ancillary businesses on licensing, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, and litigation. Her work includes helping clients understand and respond to evolving state and local requirements, develop regulatory strategies, and mitigate risk in a highly regulated and rapidly changing market.

In addition, Joslin has significant experience in election law, representing candidates, political organizations, and public entities in litigation, compliance, and regulatory matters. She advises clients on campaign finance issues, election-related disputes, and other sensitive matters that require careful strategy, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in high-visibility circumstances.

In 2023, Joslin Monahan was recognized by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as an “Influential Woman of Law”.

Ms. Monahan was a past Chair of the Western Branch of the ACLU of Michigan. She is also a member of the Lawyers Committee for the Western Branch of the ACLU of Michigan. Ms. Monahan is a member of the International Cannabis Bar Association (INCBA) and serves on INCBA’s Ethics Committee.

Education

Ms. Monahan was awarded her law degree from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey Law School. While in law school, Ms. Monahan was a member of the Journal of Health Care Law and Policy and a member of Phi Delta Phi. Ms. Monahan also received her Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Montana, where she was the recipient of the University of Montana Philosophy Department full scholarship teaching assistantship. She obtained her B.A., summa cum laude, from Hope College where she was awarded the Hope College Presidential Scholarship and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Ms. Monahan is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan and the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.  Ms. Monahan is an inactive member of the State of Montana Bar and has been admitted to the United States District Court for the District of Montana, United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Montana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
