Jeff Canfield is a Member of the firm’s Employment and Labor practice. His practice focuses on traditional labor law, collective bargaining, grievance arbitrations, and counseling employers on all matters concerning employment and labor law compliance and defense.

He was admitted to the bar in 2002 and has significant experience representing a wide range of employers, from local businesses to large national corporations.

Labor and Employment Law
Prior to joining Miller Johnson, Jeff worked as Vice President and senior corporate counsel for an American cereal manufacturing company.  He possesses broad experience handling labor and employment law matters for clients of all sizes in a variety of industries. He enjoys a busy counseling practice for union and nonunion clients, advising employers on the full spectrum of employment matters, including civil rights charges, difficult medical leave issues, employee discipline and discharge, wage and hour, and unemployment. Jeff also specializes in traditional labor work involving collective bargaining, labor arbitrations, unfair labor practice litigation, labor-management relations and union avoidance.

Collective Bargaining
Jeff counsels and represents employers in collective bargaining matters.  Jeff works with all levels of management to identify collective bargaining goals and to develop a bargaining strategy to secure those goals.

Labor and Employment Defense
Jeff also represents employers in litigation and administrative proceedings before the NLRB, EEOC, and other federal and state agencies.  He routinely resolves matters in the early stages of litigation, avoiding the expense and distraction of trial.

Professional Affiliations, Activities and Honors
Jeff is an active member in the Michigan State Bar’s Labor and Employment section.

Education
Jeff received his law degree, in 2002 from Wayne State University Law School and his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Michigan in 1996.

Jeff is admitted to practice in all Michigan state and federal courts.
