I-9 Compliance: More Important Than Ever

The immigration landscape is changing daily. One constant though is the government’s focus on employers who employ undocumented workers in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been specifically directed to increase its efforts to deter illegal employment in the United States. The Agency has implemented a broad I-9 inspection program to promote compliance with the law and sanction those who break it. This workshop will focus on the DHS’s increased efforts on enforcement at the employment level, new enforcement tactics, and updates on key programs. Items to be covered include the following:

  • The DHS’s Form I-9 inspection process
  • The new Form I-9
  • Enrolling in DHS’s E-Verify and IMAGE programs
  • Responding to an employee’s use of false or fraudulent documents
  • Proper investigation and reporting when receiving information that may cause you to believe an employee is not authorized
  • Increased penalties and other new enforcement tools for record-keeping violations

This workshop will give you a step-by-step action plan in order to comply with the I-9 requirements, respond to a DHS inquiry, and investigate Social Security no-match information.
